The pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a small deciduous fruit tree of the Lythraceae family, whose fruit is the pomegranate.Shrub or small tree up to 5 m high, deciduous, more or less thorny, highly branched. Right trunk, with cracked bark and opposite, patent branches; the young tetragons and sometimes pendulous. The leaves, simple, 1.5-7 by 0.8-2 cm, are lanceolate to oblong, opposite or suboposed –on young branches– or gathered in alternate or subopposed fascicles, deciduous, subcoriaceous, glossy on the upper side. , glabrous, yellowish green, attenuated in short petiole with an obtuse apex, often rounded –except emarginate–, with little obvious terminal gland (nectary). The flowers are 3-4 cm in diameter, solitary, more rarely geminate or ternate with a pedicel of up to 3 mm, acrid when fruiting.En diversos formatos.
